Mach 5 brings a new level of pulse diagnostics and control to
High Rep Rate Laser Applications in Solar Cell Manufacturing
Lake Oswego, Oregon, May 18, 2009 - Spectrum Detector, Inc., a leading manufacturer of detectors and instruments for laser power and energy measurements, announced today that their new 100kHz Digital Joulemeter, mach 5, is being used by a number of Solar Cell manufacturers as a key laser diagnostic tool. The unique Joulemeter can be used to measure pulse energy fluctuations and pulse jitter at up to 100,000 pps. This can be extremely useful when diagnosing process problems on the Solar Cell production line and as a tool to help develop the ever more sophisticated laser process applications.
The mach 5 is optimal for characterizing such high rep rate lasers including diode pumped Q-switched YAG/YLF lasers and ultra short pulse Fiber lasers. Ultraviolet lasers (266nm and 355nm) are those typically used for the Solar Cell applications due to the strong optical absorption of silicon at these wavelengths. Our fast mach 5 Joulemeter probes include two models that incorporate, windowless, UV enhanced photodiodes... a good match to the UV lasers. These high sensitivity probes can measure form 10 pJ to 200 uJ of pulse energy. They include temperature compensation for high average power applications.
Mach 5 includes full featured, LabView Software with several unique features that provide great support when trying to track down a laser related process problem. The first is the “Life Test” mode, which allows the user to set up a fully automated, high rep rate laser test. Set start time, batch size, number of test sets and select raw data or user determined STATS and let it run. Come back in minutes or days to review complete laser test report. The second is the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) analysis mode. With this feature the user can look at a pulse energy data set and readily identify periodic anomalies in the laser output that would raise havoc with the Solar Cell process. The speedy mach 5 can capture up to 4 million pulses at the maximum rep rate of 100 kHz and will port this data to your computer over a full speed USB 2.0 connection.
