Modular Analog Radiometric Instruments


We have developed an exciting, modular product line that brings together a variety of state of the art Detectors and ultra high performance Surface Mount trans-impedance amplifiers for incredible radiometric performance and versatility.

This family of products includes Pyroelectric (SPI), Silicon (SSI) and Germanium (SGI) detectors in a variety of sizes. The electronic circuits were designed to optimize either low noise, high responsivity or high bandwidth operation.

We've packaged these Instruments in a unique shielded metal housing that is composed of 3 basic parts:

  • 1st the interchangeable Detector Module
  • 2nd the compact Power Supply
  • 3rd the versatile Optical Front End.

Detector Module: Houses the high performance detector and electronics in what is essentially a faraday cage for good EMI immunity and low noise performance.

Power Supply: Includes both the battery and wall power supply, the on/off switch and power on LED. Operate on the battery for convenience and portability or the wall supply for long term measurements.

Optical Front End: Designed to provide added EMI shielding and a versatile way of adding filters, windows, lenses, fiber optic connectors and apertures to our instrument. Yes - we've include a 1.035-40 threaded front bezel which makes it compatible with many of the Thor Labs SM1 opto-mechanical components.

The Optical Front End and Power Supply can be used with any of the Detector Modules: Pyroelectric, Silicon or Germanium.

The Pyroelectric Instrument series include a number of models based on the detector element size, op amp and feedback resistor values for either high voltage output or high bandwidth. The Silicon and Germanium Instruments are optimized for high sensitivity from DC to 10 Hz.

SPI-A-30 and SPI-A-40 Pyroelectric Instrument Series

This family of instruments is based on our LiTaO3 Pyroelectric detectors which feature relatively flat spectral response from Deep UV to Far IR (0.1 to 1000 µm). They are for use with almost any pulsed, modulated or chopped source of electro-magnetic energy (i.e. lasers, lamps, sunlight or black body sources to mention a few).

Measure from a 50 nanowatts to 50 milliwatts, from near DC to 10 MHz. Select a 2, 5 or 9 mm diameter element mated to a current mode circuit that is either optimized for high frequency, flat bandwidth response (SPI-A-30) or low noise, high voltage output (SPI-A-40).

SSI-A-45 Silicon Instrument

This radiometric instrument is based on a 5.8 mm square, UV enhanced Silicon Detector manufactured by Hamamatsu Corporation. These are shallow diffused PIN photodiodes used in the Photovoltaic mode for optimum performance in the 200 to 1100 nm spectral range. They're well suited for low level power measurements of continuous sources like lasers, lamps, LEDs, Laser Diodes and the like. Measure from picowatts to milliwatts with our SSI-A-45.

SGI-A-45 Germanium Instrument

This radiometric instrument is based on a 5 mm diameter, state of the art Germanium Detector supplied by Judson Technologies.

The detectors are used at room temperature in a current mode circuit at essentially zero volts reverse bias for optimum performance in the 600 to 1800 nm range. Select an SGI instrument for power measurements of LED's, Laser Diodes and Fiber Optics. Measure from picowatts to milliwatts with our SGI-A-45.
